Vacuum pumps are combined in operational procedures and chambers, sometimes requiring more than a one pump in a single application. Positive displacement pumps are used to create partial vacuum, and also used in transporting gas load from an inlet port to an outlet or exhaust port. This is a type of pump which creates low vacuum because of its mechanical limitations. For creating higher vacuum, other techniques are used usually in series. Some examples include oil sealed rotary vane pump, dry scroll pump backing up a turbo molecular pump and a diffusion pump. Vacuum pumps can prolong the life of an engine, that produces a significant amount of air or gas because of its high performance, through adding horsepower.
